Experience Argentina’s remote northern provinces, their fascinating culture and stunning landscapes.
This 8 day trip takes us into the Salta and Jujuy Provinces in the remote Argentinean north, near the Andes Mountains, Chile and Bolivia, 1800 km from Buenos Aires. This remote Andean region of Argentina shares landscape, culture and architecture with Bolivia and Chile. It is a region of contrasts, where the traveler is constantly surprised and delighted by new vistas and experiences: in this trip we experience everything from huge salt flats to wildly eroded canyons to the lush jungle; from Indigenous Indian to Hispanic cultures, architecture and cuisine; from challenging uphill to awesome downhill rides – and everything in between!
The altitude and location in relation to the Andes mountains gives these provinces their predominant arid, semi-desert landscape, with their iconic red rock formations and salt flats. The diversity of these provinces allows you to experience the arid, high altitude landscapes and culture; while shortly afterwards you can be cycling through the jungle and bathing in hot springs!
This trip will introduce you not only to biking in this incredible region, but also to some of Argentina’s most fascinating heritage sites and local Indigenous cultures, including the pre-Inca cultures who fiercely resisted the coming of the Incas and the Spanish and who remain to this day. Staying in hosterias (inns) and farmhouses off the beaten track, we experience the heartwarming hospitality of the small towns and villages and have the opportunity to learn about their unique culture and history. All of this combined with awesome biking through these incredible landscapes!
